The state document with which the Institute has been founded is decree 74 of Tsar Boris III, issued in Sofia on November 28, 1925.
The Institute is located in South-Eastern Bulgaria, a region distinctly different from the rest of the country because of its specific climatic conditions. It`s situated in a region, typical of the geographic area.
The research activity in the beginning has been guided by two basic directions following below:
1. Breeding of new more productive wheat varieties and other field crops, typical of the region, resistant to unfavorable meteorological influences – dry winds, low temperatures, draught.
2. Discovery and establishment of practical methods of improving the cultivation technology of wheat and other crops, which aims at increasing the yield.
Today 19 researchers work at the Institute of Agriculture – Karnobat. Three of them are professors, 8 – assistant professors. 13 of them have the educational and scientific degree “Doctor” and one “Doctor of sciences”. In the direction of research 11 research associates work in the field of breeding and genetics of barley, 8 research associates work in the field of agro-technical research and 1 research associate works in the field of stock breeding (selection and physiology).
The age and qualification of the scientific staff gives the opportunity complicated research tasks with a complex character to be assigned. Write Comment (0 Comments) |
